Doupnitsa
Doupnitsa is located in Southwest Bulgaria, between the west slopes of the Rila Mountain and the south of Verila Mountain. The relief is typical mountainous, the climate – temperately continental with Mediterranean influence. The town has very important geographical location - 69 km away from capitol Sofia, 38 km from Kjustendil, 33 km from Blagoevgrad, 15 km from resort Sapareva Banja and 40 km from Samokov. The population is about 40 000 inhabitants. Two important international roads cross this town: highways Sofia - Athens and Plovdiv - Skopje. Doupnitsa is a well-developed industrial centre, also known as the town of Bulgarian pharmacy. Other industrial branches are shoe industry, tobacco production, textile fabrics and tailoring. A lot of buildings in town preserved National-Revival architecture traditions. Nature is pure, with fresh air, healing climate and cordial people and offers all necessary conditions for hunting, fishing, mountaineering or rural tourism. The region possesses a wide scope of natural, anthropogenic and recreational resources. Doupnitsa is a starting point for interesting tourist objects in South-West Bulgaria and also in the whole Rila Mountain.
